The 2 most likely causes are a marginal battery in the film pack or a failing motor. The darkslide (cardboard cover) can be ejected fairly easily as it’s thin and requires little effort compared to a sheet of film. You can check the battery in the film pack, it should measure a full 6 volts.
The best way to develop instax film is to keep it out of direct sunlight while developing. To do this, shield the film from direct light with your hand until the film has fully ejected and lay it upside down on a flat surface to keep it is out of direct sunlight for the first 90 seconds of development.
